Just watched "A Man Among Wolves", which is a show done by National Geographic on Shaun Ellis, a man who immersed himself in a life among wolves - completely. I found it to be pretty impressive and it's amazing just how devoted this guy is!

I found it on Youtube, so if you're interested in wolves, you should check it out. It has 5 parts at about 9 minutes each part.

Shaun Ellis is an idiot...I'm sorry.  He has several books which are a massive step backwards in wolf education and research.  There are many more incredible resources for wolf information out there and it still floors me to this day that Nat Geo actually let this guy have some air time.  Unfortunately the flashy stuff makes it to the screen half the time and does generate money.  Shaun Ellis makes strange statements about dairy products and seems to think that "feeding" with the pack by caching pre-cooked food inside a carcass makes them think he is one of them.  It's awesome for showbiz but really not steeped in any kind of reality.  He does have some amazing animals to spend time with though I'll grant him that.  The most amusing things on that show (rolls eyes at the title) is when he says he's teaching a pup to howl and when he's submitting upon his return to the pack after being away for awhile.  Why is that amusing?  1 - you don't have to teach an wolf to howl.  2 - the scene where he is showing he is submissive, 2 of the wolves are clearly submitting to him.  His books are insanely ludicrous and even Monty Sloan regrets having his pictures and name associated with one of them (because he had no idea of the book's content at the time of photo release).  I'm not knocking anyone for posting about Shaun Ellis, it's just that he is very much a showman and that's all.

Oh wow! Thank you Dewclaws! I had no idea! I thought some of the things he said seemed odd but then I'm no wolf expert so I had no idea. Just seemed interesting!

Thanks for the heads up on this guy!
