My 'middle aged' akita stings. Started off slowly about a year ago, wash it a little extra and it was fine. Now I've got to wash it extra good and it only stings a little. I've pulled it out of rotation. Embarrassed

I've been using bar soap. I can try dish soap, antibacterial soap has ruined other toys. Boiling is out of the question atm.

I would assume unless there is something specialy wrong with it that it's just the normal thing with the stuff that slowly leaks from those over time
and possibly some sligth reaction too that.
From what I noticed, storing those old ones powdered in eatch their bag seems too prevent too much of that stuff building up.
Only other good sugjestion I got is using condoms over it.
I cna usualy see how bad the layer of leaked out stuff is by putting a condom over it... if it's bad they get brittle nad partialy dissolved in a some time, usualy hours.
Thats how I saw storing thme powdered helped ^^ as I dont get any stinging or reation from it

Nope, this one doesn't leach anymore. It's older than that

I had the impression they all do that until they break tho o.O
That the material leaching was the stuff keeping it soft and bendable, and when it had all leaked out it would get stiff , brittle and eventualy crack and stuff when all out...
hmmm... how old is that one? ^^ oldest mine is about 5 year +/- or somethign there

4 or 5 years or more. They leach less and less.
I assume it didn't get anything on it, I store them all together

My first thought was a sensitivity to the lube you're using?? I know sometimes it can sting or burn. Lol I found out I'm sensitive to most water based lubes lol, but I ended up getting some j-lube and that fixed all my problems.

Hmm well that's interesting. But it's also why Bear is moving everything to silicone slowly. It will help coustomers really enjoy  their toys for a lifetime. However I'm suretyat those of us that still prefer his gel toys will also be able to perchase a custom order of the old mold. :3

I hope maybe you can try new things in cleaning your toy? Soaking it in really hot soap water? Also I've never had any problem with antibacterial soap, but don't forget the babypowder dusting when you store them! It really helps with making sure you get all of the seeped material off when you wash.

like most 'irritants' you can build up an allergy to a material over time. my best guess the irritation is probably a histamine reaction (especially if the stinging is followed with 'swelling'). your best bet is to either invest in a silicone akita OR us a condom on the gel version.

and you are right, the gel does slowly stop leaching the older they get. regardless of how old it is, it should still leach a little bit (but not much). you do need to wash all toys with an antibacterial soap and if you rinse and dry them it shouldn't damage the toys.

It sounds like an allergic reaction. i don't own any gel toys just because of how icky they are and how bad they can be for the body. I suggest using condoms or just upgrading to a silicone version. A LOT less hassle, no leeching, and it'll last you a lifetime.

i really dont like silicone toys because they dont seem to hold on to the lube as well (because there hydrophobic). the gel toys texture of being 'like plastic' is a bit smoother going in too as compared to silicone that has a mat finish because of the release agents required to keep the silicone toy from sticking to the mold

My silicone trumpet is as smooth as glass :3 but you are right, the waterbased lube doesn't like to really say, I have to really make sure my j-lube is spread evenly and thick! xD

Odd. I have a few smooth and even velvety silicone toys. I think it depends on how they're made.

I have to agree with Quail. I'd use a condom with a gel toy. Just to be safe...

I just use warm water and dish soap on mine and they are just as good as new

Its also handy to coat them in powder when not in use, as the stickyness bonds to the babypowder and makes it ALOT easier to clean off before the next use.
