If you expect people to be patient for 6-12 months while you get around to making the item I would suggest not charging or partial charging until the item ships. Then you wont have angry customers...

Bear charges at the time of order to help with the cost of materials. Not charging would pose the threat of people ordering and not following through with payment after he's made the toy.
