Gender/sex options for Profile

Hey all,

I'm a fairly new customer to ZP, even though I've been lurking around the site for about a half year. I only made my profile recently, so now I feel it is time for my obligatory suggestion -- the same one, in fact, I make for all forms I fill out, paper and online. I don't know if your forum generator allows for it, but pleaseplease put in more options for Gender! Especially considering you advertise to Furries -- many of whom are genderqueer, transgender, or don't like to be placed into two boxes. I think a touch like this really goes a long way in separating yourselves out as welcoming website! I very much doubt you made those options on purpose (as in, I doubt you were trying to not include people), so this is not me showing disappointment. In fact, most people don't give that kind of tally on the Profile page a second thought. But believe me, it matters. Even adding "don't want to share/choose," "other" or "trans" would be HUGE!

Thanks so much. I know you'll take this into consideration, as I've noticed the mods care a lot about this site (as compared to the many many sites that are full of cold/condescending bunches).

good point, perhaps the dual gender symbol could be added for those who are or feel they are neither fully male nor fully female.

I was actually trying to do this waayyy long ago before launching the site, and the issues I ran into were numerous.  It kept on breaking the forums, and for such a thing I felt it best to leave out for stability purposes.

Now, I may try to add it in in the future (new site coming soon(tm)) but its not too high on the priority list as there are other bugs that I still need to get around to.  Will keep it in mind though

Also, knotme's suggestion would essentially be the same as yours.  The problem was just from adding a new gender, and adding a dual-symbol vs 5 new ones would be a 2 minute difference.  Issue is just getting all the code right.  I'll definitely try my best in the site remake, as I was much more incompetent years ago when I originally put the site up vs now.  Just need to get a break to continue work.  Already have some prototypes ready to go, but no time to get them to production

I'm actually glad to hear this. I left the "gender" blank for a reason- not only did I not see one that matches me, I also tend to like not telling which I am. I'm a person- my nether bits are unimportant.

 I'd suggest not using the purple male/female combo symbol if possible because Doug Winger-style herms have taken it over, leaving transexuals, genderqueers, and other non-standard genderss to seek other symbols. Many seem to pick triangles containing stripes of various colors, so a yellow triangle (no color inside) may be best.

By the way, on the new site you may want to let people know that "blank" is an option for the gender symbol. Many forums force you to pick, so it's nice to not have to pick.

Ohh, that's interesting, RB. Might be easier to code for the option to be left blank than it is to sync up another option on the list? But I know very little about code..

The yellow triangle is nice, too.. certainly less sexually charged than the dual Venus-Mars symbol has become. Not that this site doesn't sell sex toys lol.

Now you mention it, it does feel appropriate that it's not so sexually charged. Gender isn't just about sex, it's a part of who you are.    It also is nice for people who don't have an assigned gender to themselves in light of this.
