i really like toys myself and moreso the ones BB makes. if you ever see my full collection you would see that i dont have any "realistic" toys, as in human shaped. i did notice that some of the new toys that zeta is making are now textured to make them more realistic... i have never tried one of these and would love to when ever i can but i also wouldnt mind seeing some of the toys remain smooth. the only toy that i have had that was textured was one that i had a short time (bought it for a friend) and i didnt enjoy the texture on it, but then again the texture on the toy was that of a wooden broom handle and really made the toy suck. im not saying that the texture that zeta uses is going to be that bad but would it be possible to have the option on some toys to have them come smooth or textured? i think i might be willing to pay alittle more on some cases to get them similar to the gel toys where they are smooth.

the one silicone toy i have does have a slight matte finish deal which doesnt bother me so this isnt the texture i am talking about.

It depends on how the toy is made.

    For example...
If BB somehow managed to make a positive mold (what a toy would look like) out of normal plastic and then made a negative mold of that (what its poured into) then it would likely have a smooth surface since plastic is really smooth.

On the other hand, 3d printed toys have a sanded texture to them due to them needing to be sanded (but using a really fine grit).  There is however an exception to this type of design.

There's also positives made out of clay.  Those I believe are smooth as long as nothing gets on the surface.  (I'm not 100% sure on this method.  I've never actually had any experience with it)

Well I ma dividing the line in 2 sperate ways.
One is slick like the old Gel line and will be called our Euro line, then we have the natural textured and shaped line.

*nodnods* i watch science channels alot and have seen stuff about the 3D printers and find them to be a really fascinating tool. but i mean mostly the difference between toys such as the silicone ruff jr. (smooth) and the silicone boxie or hellmut (texturedd). those seem to be abit more textured then just what i would assume would come with the use of the 3D printer but i dont know myself. the one silicone toy that i have looks as tho it has the same texture as the silicone ruff jr. but as i have said previously the toy i have is made by some completely different company that makes really weird toys.

-- BB ahh i see, i will have to make sure i watch for that then, you got me right as i hit the post button so it stopped me lol

    hehe

the toys I sell right now are all done by hand, there is nothing I carry right now that has been printed out, though I am looking into the idea.

aye 3d printing is definately a cool thing, give the user lots of different design capabilities and different sizes. but i do like the idea of a good old hand made toy ^,~ not something you see around much anymore

When doing 3d printing, changing sizes takes all of 2 seconds.  Options->scale->enter size in inches->ok
All there is to it.  If a smaller/bigger size needs an actual size change on a specific part, that takes slightly longer but still possible.

the biggest problem with those is the start up costs >.> something like 6k to 10k for a semi decent one....

    If you buy the printer.
if you just pay the cost for materials and using it, its much much more affordable.

Once I finish a model I'm working on currently, I'll be using a test model for pricing.
My estimate is that it would cost no more than about $300-$400 per model which includes shipping, curing, sanding and all that good stuff.

Don't buy a 3d printer.  It's really a waste of money and quite technical.

lol its actualy really simple and really fast depending on that companies turn around time. but the process of getting new toys, is still going to be based on drying
(setting) time of the silicone and also how backed up bear might be with a new toy release.
