    So, I just moved into my new apartment- and I discovered one thing very very fast. When my roommate is gone, I don't like being alone. xD; At all. Everywhere I've lived there's always been at least one person there. SO. I was curious; Can any of you give me any advice on how to not freak out? ^^;

    I was living alone for a while, so what I did was, I'd either play music "Gothic/Darkwave/EBM/NEO Classical... or Id have my T V on a movie channel all the time, so it would trick my mind into thinking that someone was there because of all the dialogue. Sometimes it didn't work, so I'd take a walk around the lake, and see who else was out and try to strike up a conversation with them. Try to stay buisy with something like a hobby, it takes you mind off of the obsessive thoughts of being alone. One thing is for certain, boredom and loneliness are the key ingredients to "cabin fever"

    I have a cat, but, you know cats. XD Eat, sleep, poop, demand attention, sleep, drink, sleep.

    I have no cable right now, and I'm borrowing internet from my upstairs neighbor. xD (It randomly craps out, by the by) So I don't really have anything. I am playing music, though, and it kinda helps. It's just when I have to leave my desk that I'm like,"DDD: Aaaah!"

    An unshielded wireless modem/router is how you "borrow" internet. The same concept as the businesses that offer Wi-Fi, only the neighbor doesn't know that they're doing it.

    I WANT and NEED more time alone than I have. Partly because it's the only time I currently feel comfortable playing with my toys Cheesy

    I understand the feelings of restlessness, though. If I get too much time alone that can happen lately. I read, play  video games, fiddle with drawing, watch movies, er... play with myself... I used to write, but I haven't done that in a long, long time.

    So yeah, hobbies are good.

    I'm going to agree with this.

    I pretty much have music going all the time I'm awake, because if I sit in absolute silence for too long, I start to get paranoid and I start hearing sounds that scare me half to death.

    i hate silence (unless im sleeping and sometimes music helps me sleep) so no matter what i almost have to have the tv running or some music on (which i dont really do often, i prefer TV) even when im playing games, just for that background noise.

    I dunno to me it depends on where I'm living. In my oldest house that I can remember, it was an extremely old house and it had LOTS of old house sounds, like toilets that did some late night bowl flushing, a furnace that would rattle doors, creaks and moans of steps and such. The basement and attic of that house were ungodly scary.

    In the second house I lived in, the house was super small, like 2 bedrooms, mine bathroom, mini kitchen, and a living room. Since it was so small, basically any sound or anything was something made by me or my cats and was easily identifiable.

    My current house is not as big as my first house, but it's split level, way newer, less creaks, no moans, no furnace rattling, so the only noises are me and my cats and my TV. I can't sleep with my TV off. But it's more for the sound and light than anything else. I'm still afraid of the dark and I almost always will be. But that's a different story.

    The thing is, I hear non-existant sounds.  I'll usually hear breathing or footsteps or knocking when my paranoia starts to kick in.  After that, it goes on to stranger sounds, like chainsaws.

    I even require soft white noise and a little bit of light when I go to sleep.

    Oh, my mind plays horrible tricks on me. It's because I have an overactive imagination or something like that. I don't have auditory halucinations nearly as much as visual ones. But visual ones generally stem from darkness for me. Hence part of the reason I fear the dark.

    In my oldest house I would hear things like breathing, or walking or knocking and such with all of the old house sounds mixed in. Since I was like 13 years old and left alone until like 2am, I tended to freak out major until my dad finally wandered in from the bars. Because if somebody else was home, I could blame the sounds on them. If I was the only one there, I was too much for me at such a young age.
